How to Hang Artwork: Expert Tips for Your Home

What is the ideal height to hang artwork?

For a professional feel, hang artwork at the average eye level, with the centre of the piece approximately 57 to 60 inches from the floor. Ideal placement when hanging artwork above furniture allows 5 to 7 inches of space between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the frame.

How to hang a gallery wall

Lay out your arrangement on the floor or a table first to find a balanced composition. Spacing between frames should be a consistent measurement of 2 to 3 inches in between frames.

Displaying artwork without hanging

Adding artwork to unexpected places or layering art against a wall, on a shelf, mantel, or console produces a relaxed, collected aesthetic. This also works well for those of us who like to change the arrangement of our decor.

Art care tips

Remember to best care for your artwork and it's longevity. Avoid direct sunlight, excess humidity, or heat sources.

Dust frames gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh cleaners or moisture on the artwork or glass. If needed, remove the artwork from the wall before cleaning nearby surfaces.
